How do I know if my cat has arthritis?

Cats may show different signs of arthritis and some are better at masking their pain. If you’re not sure or notice any of these signs, please bring them in for a visit to see one of our veterinarians:

• Difficulty jumping up or down
• Stiff or swollen joints
• Walking awkwardly or stiffly
• Aggression towards people or other pets
• Wincing when you try to pet some parts of their body 

How does arthritis affect my cat?

Arthritis is a degenerative joint disease where the cartilage between the bones in their joints starts to wear away. This usually happens as cats get older, causing inflammation and pain. This makes it harder for them to enjoy their daily activities without discomfort. You might notice it’s more difficult for them to jump up or down from their favourite spot by the window. Their behaviour might also change as they become more irritable and nap more than usual.
